Rounded Borders in Tableau?!

Can't wait for Tableau to release their rounded borders? Look no further!

Rounded Borders in Tableau!

I was at the Tableau Conference this year when they introduced rounded borders to the gasps of all in the audience, but I have hacked together an interim solution in Figma that gets the job done as we sit and wait for the release this Fall!

1. The idea?

The concept is quite simple in theory – create 4 rounded corners in Figma and connect them with lines created with blank space objects in Tableau. Executing on that was a different story as it did take a lot of trial and error to get the sizing, line weights, and padding correct. Labor of love on this one!

2. How to use it?

What resulted is a reusable template in Tableau that you just have to drop your worksheet or container of worksheets into! Once you’ve done that, you can treat the complete package as you would anything else in your dashboard. Best part is that it will automatically resize to fit any space since the 4 corners are fixed, letting the lines fill in the space.

3. Where to get it?

You can download the reusable template here and see it used in a full demo here. Feel free to contact me via Radar BI or LinkedIn if you would like the SVG files for the corners so you can adjust the color.

Enjoy!
